Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company Brewery — 95 Evergreen Avenue

Schlitz left this 1951 Bushwick brewery in 1982, but the red-brick shell and its sky bridge survived. Its former loading dock is now a lobby whose walls and ceiling hold 8,500 glowing glass bottles—a playful memory of the building's first life.

The former Schlitz brewery at 95 Evergreen Avenue was erected in 1951, an exact match to Joseph's first Schlitz entry. The building has since been adaptively reused as offices/retail while preserving brewery references. A 2015–16 adaptive-reuse campaign followed a $33.7 million January 2015 sale to Savanna and Hornig Capital. Commercial Observer described a $30 million Fogarty Finger/Sweet Construction conversion of the roughly 170,000-square-foot brewery, including restoration of the red-brick exterior and a new lobby carved from the former loading dock. Contemporary reports differ slightly on whether the lobby installation used 8,400 or 8,500 bottles; describe it as roughly 8,500 unless quoting a source.

The brewery was converted to office and retail use; the reuse deliberately preserves Schlitz motifs. By November 2019, the converted brewery was planned to open as a multi-service NYC Human Resources Administration center, consolidating SNAP and job-center functions for about 600 employees and an expected 700–800 clients per day.
