The nursing-home company incorporated in April 1972; later architectural records date major Bronx Morningside House buildings to 1974.

Why it matters

Morningside House grew from the merger of two older charitable institutions associated with St. Luke's and Peabody. The new organization was incorporated in 1972 and its modern home followed soon afterward. Rita's 1973 entry captures that transition from nineteenth-century philanthropy to a purpose-built center for older New Yorkers. The story is less about a single grand opening than about two traditions combining into one continuing place of care.
