Ground was broken in 1969 and the new Broadway lobby opened in 1973.
Columbia-Presbyterian broke ground for the Vanderbilt Clinic expansion in September 1969 and opened its Broadway lobby in 1973. Rita's 1971 date lands squarely in the middle of construction. The project helps explain why hospital campuses can feel like small cities: they grow in linked phases, with new clinics, circulation routes and patient spaces woven into buildings that must keep operating throughout the work.

Likely: most likely CMU/concrete-block partitions, shafts, stair/elevator enclosures and other fire-rated/service walls; exterior brick or masonry backup is also plausible where the hospital addition used a masonry facade.
