State records date construction of Ravenswood's gas-turbine plant to 1967.
Ravenswood's 1967 gas-turbine expansion belonged to the machinery that kept New York's lights on during a period of soaring demand. The Queens complex remains the city's largest generating station, but its owners now describe a transition toward cleaner energy. Rita's line therefore connects two energy eras: the rapid build-out of fossil-fuel capacity and the present effort to reuse the same strategic waterfront site for a different power future.
